The Seahawks signed receiver Chris Matthews off of their practice squad to fill the roster spot that has been open all week. Seattle had only 52 on its roster because cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy failed his physical after being claimed off of waivers last week. Purifoy would have filled the roster spot that came open when linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis was placed on injured reserve.
Matthews, who signed with the Seahawks out of the CFL in February, was part of Seattle’s roster cuts at the end of camp, then re-signed to the practice squad. He has since been on and off the practice squad this season, but this is first time on the 53-man roster.
It’s unlikely that Matthews will be involved in Sunday’s game at Philadelphia consider that the Seahawks are as healthy as they have been since early in the season, meaning fewer injured players being inactive on game day. But the fact that Seattle promoted the 6-foot-5 former University of Kentucky product shows they still see promise in him.
