50 years ago (1964)
Everett patrolman Howard Northern used his police car, a 1963 Plymouth, to bulldoze a large snowball out of the middle of the street in the 1500 block of Hoyt Ave. Following removal to the curb, the heavy rain made short work of the snowball.
Ron Slater, 15-year-old-student at Evergreen Junior High School, looked over a scale model of a basement fallout shelter he constructed for Civil Defense authorities to use in exhibits. Ron, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Reed Slater, 1222 Pinkerton Ave., presented the shelter to Will Cross, Civil Defense director.
25 years ago (1989)
Edmonds Community College counselor Marva Brown had no qualms about getting down in the mud to visit with members of her farmyard menagerie. Brown took the animals on the road to enrich the lives of those confined to nursing homes and rehabilitation centers around the county.
Stanwood men Lee Harman, eye surgeon, and John Stockamp, insurance agent, were heading to London to take part in the London-to-Sidney World Vintage Air Rally, stopping at exotic ports-of-call as Corfu, Cairo, Rangoon and Bali.
