Prep girls basketball: Lynnwood 53, Glencoe (Ore.) 29

LAKE OSWEGO — The visiting Lynnwood girls basketball team continues to work its way through some of the best teams in Oregon.

The Royals got their second victory in as many days Sunday as Lynnwood defeated Glencoe 53-29 in the Nike Interstate Challenge at Lake Oswego High School.

The loss was the first of the season for Glencoe (6-1 overall), a 6A school from Hillsboro, Ore.

“There’s been some good basketball, some exciting basketball down here,” said Lynnwood coach Everett Edwards. “I feel like we’re stepping up.”

Mikayla Pivec led Lynnwood (7-0) with 22 points and Kelsey Rogers and Taylor Fahey added nine points apiece in a physical game for the Royals.

“One thing that has stood out to me is the physicality,” Edwards said. “A lot of kids are going to come home with some bumps and bruises. But we’re excited to be down here and in the semifinals.”

The Royals will face West Linn (5-2), which defeated West Albany 52-45 prior to the Royals game Sunday night, in the semifinals Monday at 8 p.m. West Linn lost earlier in the season to Jesuit, which Lynnwood defeated in its first round game at the Nike Interstate Challenge.
