Based on the comments made by Seahawks players this week, it’s clear they all have a tremendous amount of respect for Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but few have expressed that in a way as unique as safety Earl Thomas did on Thursday.
“I just respect him as a football player in general,” Thomas said. “You can tell that he knows the game. He has a lot of confidence back there. You don’t really see a lot of quarterbacks of his skin color with soul like that, and I like it.”
And while it may not be the most P.C. thing to associate the amount of soul a quarterback possesses with the color of his skin, well, Thomas might be onto something.
While Rodgers’ ability to make plays is the primary concern in Seattle, people back in Green Bay are worried about the calf injury that has limited both his practice time and his mobility. While Rodgers is fully expected to play, he clearly didn’t move as well against Dallas as he usually does, but even though that figures to limit him to a degree this week, Thomas isn’t going to prepare any differently for Rodgers.
“I’m not buying into this leg issue,” Thomas said. “I’m not buying into it. I saw him scramble close to the goal line on the Cowboys, so he’s not fooling me with that… I’m not falling into that. I’m on my own road regardless. I’m on my road regardless.”
