At HeraldNet.com, we like to take your temperature.
No, we don’t poke anyone with a thermometer. We’re still waiting on the NSA to work out the technology for that.
For this, you just need to click and give us your opinion on one of our polls.
The results tend to be pretty fascinating. Before the NFL playoffs began, we asked a simple yes-or-no question: “Are the Seahawks going to repeat as Super Bowl champions?” More than three-quarters of those responding said yes.
Now, was there truly a 3-in-4 chance the Hawks would run the table through the Super Bowl? Of course not! Smart guys like Nate Silver at fivethirtyeight.com had them at 35 percent or so — the favorites, but not prohibitive ones. Even now, after winning one playoff game, the cold, hard statistics would say they’re more likely not to repeat.
Then again, they’re two wins away and Kam Chancellor is a cyborg. Maybe all those optimists will be proven right.
Earlier this week, we asked about Gov. Jay Inslee’s plan to allow electric vehicles to sail for free on state ferries and get a free pass in toll lanes. Through Friday, a resounding 84 percent said no. This would tell us one of a couple things:
- You think everyone who pays taxes for the roads and ferries should have equal access.
- You don’t want some hippie in a Chevy Volt skipping past you in the fast lane as you spend another morning playing inchworm on the interstate.
Obligatory disclaimer: These polls are non-scientific and represent a self-selected group of Herald readers online. Like I said, we’re just taking your temperature.
In any case, the governor would seem to have at least a few minds to change.
