Port of Everett awards contracts for Waterfront Place

EVERETT — The Port of Everett commission awarded a contract this week for engineering and design services for its Waterfront Place development to PND Engineering.

The contract for up to $3 million calls for the company along with Miller Hull Partnership to design the public infrastructure in the central part of the Waterfront Place devleopment including roads, sidewalks and landscape as well as 15 public spaces.

The company will also review proposed private developments for the project. PND Engineering is an Anchorage, Alaska, company with a branch office in Seattle.

The Port aims to transform the pier between the North and Central Marinas into a mixed-use development with 660 condominiums, two waterfront hotels and at least 10 restaurants. The project also is expected to include 662,000 square feet of commercial, retail and marine sales and services.

Features in the plan include a 2-acre park at the western edge of the pier and a promenade that circles the development along the water’s edge.

The project is estimated to cost $363 million, but could rise as high as $400 million, depending on the final build-out of the area. The Port wants to invest $33 million into the project and allow private developers to take on most of the rest of the development.

In addition to PND and Miller Hull, the consultant team also includes: Harbor Power Engineers, Inc., Hart Crowser, Landau Associates, Gibson Traffic Consultants, Inc., Notkin Mechanical Engineers and PCS Structural Solutions.

The Port also this week awarded a $300,000 contract to Cord Media of Palm Springs, California, to develop the advertising and promotion for the project including a website, video production and media placement.

A prior company, Red Propeller in Seattle, developed branding for the project relying on historical information about the area to give the project an Everett feel. Red Propeller also developed a marketing strategy for attracting businesses and developers to the area. Cord Media is being tasked to implement that strategy.
