GRANITE FALLS — There will be a changing of the guard Monday at the Granite Falls Police Department.
Snohomish County Sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Robertson is set to take over as chief of the department. Granite Falls is one of several cities that contract with the county for law enforcement services.
He is replacing Chief David Bowman who has was involved in a 2014 traffic accident.
“He is on extended medical leave,” sheriff’s office spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.
Bowman was involved in a crash on his way to help end a man’s shooting spree that targeted police stations and police officers Oct. 15 in Granite Falls, Lake Stevens and Marysville.
Interim Granite Falls Chief Todd Swenson recently was promoted to sheriff’s lieutenant and will be one of two night-time commanders.
Robertson has been in law enforcement for more than 20 years, including a stint most recently as the Darrington police chief.
The Central Washington University graduate started his law enforcement career with the Clyde Hill Police Department in January 1993, and then worked for the Kirkland Police Department from 1995 to 2000. He joined the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office in 2000.
Over the years, he has worked on several teams, including SWAT, swift water, marine, dive, civil disturbance, chemical agent response and traffic.
He also has served as a field training officer, defensive tactics instructor and emergency motor vehicle and motorcycle operator instructor.
Robertson was promoted to sergeant in 2013 and has taught community college criminal justice classes in Everett and Skagit County.
