EDMONDS — A 20-year-old Bellevue man was arrested Friday morning after allegedly conducting a string of burglaries in Edmonds.
A resident in the 18400 block of Homeview Drive called police at about 7:30 a.m. because a man with no shirt had broken into his house. The resident was at home with his family of five, including children, at the time of the break-in.
The burglar fled the home when confronted, but then other homeowners called 911 to report seeing him running around the area. The burglar broke into a second home and stole some food.
“He went backyard hopping, and roof hopping,” said Edmonds Police Sergeant Shane Hawley.
Police dogs from Lynnwood Police and the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office joined Edmonds Police in tracking the suspect.
At about 8:30 a.m., after a report of a man on the roof of a house in the 18400 block of 73rd Ave., the suspect was tracked to a large storage shed on the property, where the man had barricaded himself inside. The police got inside and found the suspect hiding in the loft of the shed.
The suspect refused to surrender and was subdued by the dogs and the use of a Taser.
He showed signs of intoxication and admitted to being high on methamphetamines. He was evaluated by aid crews and taken to Swedish Medical Center Edmonds as a precaution.
The homeowner who confronted the burglar was not injured. The suspect was expected to be booked into jail Friday on multiple counts of burglary.
