AquaSox’s Jackson named Northwest League’s Most Valuable Player

EVERETT — Everett AquaSox shortstop Drew Jackson added another accolade to his collection this season when he was named the Northwest League’s Most Valuable Player for the 2015 season on Saturday, Sept. 5. AquaSox center fielder Braden Bishop was named a Post-Season All-Star, and manager Rob Mummau won his second Manager of the Year award.

Jackson was recently named the Northwest League Player of the Month for August, and won two Player of the Week awards this season. Jackson hit .362 with 47 steals, 64 runs scored and a .437 OBP, all league-high totals.

Mummau guided the AquaSox to a post-season berth, which he also accomplished in 2012 and 2013 with the AquaSox. He managed the Pulaski Mariners in 2014 before returning to the helm of the AquaSox this season.

Bishop was a third-round pick in the 2015 MLB Draft by the Mariners. He hit .319 this season, the third-best mark in the league, and only committed two errors in center field.

Jackson joins Dave Nash (1986), Robert Zachmann (1996), Jamal Strong (2000), Ismael Castsro (2002) and Patrick Kivlehan (2012) as MVP winners in Everett. Mummau is the only Everett manager to have won the Manager of the Year award, accomplishing the feat twice.

The AquaSox host the Tri-City Dust Devils in the first game of a best-of-three playoff series at 7:05 p.m. this Monday, Sept. 7, at Everett Memorial Stadium. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. for a happy hour special featuring $5 Coors Light and two-for-one hot dogs until 6:30 p.m., and the first 500 fans receive a special AquaSox playoff t-shirt courtesy of Pepsi.
