No game today for the Silvertips as the CN Center in Prince George is scheduled to play host to a concert featuring The Tragically Hip tonight. So Everett will conclude its season-opening trip tomorrow at 5 p.m. before heading back home.
Last night’s win was Everett’s fourth in the last six season openers. It was also the Tips’ first season-opening win in Canada since 2006, when they defeated Chilliwack 2-1. Everett, of course, went on to win the U.S. Division title that season.
Of note in the WHL Friday night, Brandon out-shot Lethbridge 54-19, yet the Broncos won 2-1 in a shootout. In other U.S. Division games Victoria defeated Portland 4-1, and Vancouver defeated Seattle 3-2. The Thunderbirds are still without forwards Mathew Barzal (NY Islanders) and Jamal Watson (Montreal) who are still at NHL camps.
The Tri-City Americans play at Spokane tonight in the season opener for both teams.
According to habsworld.net Noah Juulsen skated with the rest of the Montreal Canadiens players for the first time today as he continues to recover from a concussion sustained prior to training camp opening in Everett. Also Nikita Scherbak remains on the shelf with an ankle injury.
Ryan Murray will skate tonight for the Columbus Blue Jackets and is “one of the X-factors” for Columbus this season.
