Fire districts open houses
The Monroe fire district is holding an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Fire Station 31, 163 Village Court. Child-friendly activities include Sparky the fire dog and station tours. There will be free pizza and low-cost safety helmets.
A similar event is planned the same day at Snohomish County Fire District 1 headquarters at 12425 Meridian Ave. S, Everett, near Mariner High School. It runs from 10 a.m. to noon and includes many activities for children.
The Lake Stevens fire district’s open house runs from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Fire Station 82, 9811 Chapel Hill Road.
All the events are part of National Fire Prevention Month. This year’s theme is: “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep. Every Bedroom Needs a Working Smoke Alarm.”
Planning commission opening: The Island County Board of Commissioners seeks applicants for a term on the Planning Commission. Applicants must reside in District 3 (north Whidbey Island and Camano Island). The term runs until Jan. 2, 2019. The deadline to apply is 4:30 p.m. Nov. 2.
