SHORELINE — King’s and Archbishop Murphy played to a scoreless draw through two overtime periods in a battle between two of the top teams in the Cascade Conference on Tuesday night.
The previous matchup this season between the conference rivals also yielded a scoreless tie, on September 29th at Archbishop Murphy.
“It was just a battle on the field and a good solid 90 minutes of soccer against Murphy now for the second time this year,” said King’s coach Nicole Gabelein.
“The girls played strong and we were able to meet them head on.”
Gabelein indicated that both squads had four chances on goal throughout the night and highlighted a leaping save by King’s keeper Maddie Nielsen in the second half that narrowly kept the match even as well as a save by Murphy keeper Chrissy Talley on a one-on-one.
In a rivalry match with playoff implications and no clear winner just yet, Gabelein didn’t want to take anything for granted.
“It was just a great match and these teams are playing dead-even with each other right now,” she said.
