Here’s the update from the Seahawks on receiver Ricardo Lockette:
“Ricardo Lockette underwent successful neck surgery this afternoon at the Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. He is expected to remain in the hospital for a few days for recovery. He will be up and moving around as early as tomorrow and his neurological signs are all positive.”
So good news on Lockette.
Prior to the team issuing the statement, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll spoke about the situation. Lockette’s surgery was ongoing when Carroll took the podium Monday afternoon at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center, a procedure that lasted several hours. Carroll expected Lockette to remain in the hospital for about a week. Teammates Russell Okung and Marshawn Lynch remained in Dallas to stay with Lockette as the rest of the team flew home following Sunday’s game.
Lockette also suffered a concussion on the play, when he was hit high by Dallas’ Jeff Heath while covering a punt late in the first half. There was no word Monday whether Heath would be suspended or fined for the hit.
Lockette will be placed on injured reserve and won’t play again this season. Carroll still did not know how the injury would affect Lockette’s ability to play in the future.
