Beginning Jan. 5, the Sno-Isle Regional Library System, which includes the Mill Creek Library, will begin charging for some printing from library computers.

The policy change is a result of public feedback gathered this past summer, and was recommended as a way for the library to manage current and future costs.

The 10 cents per page charge goes into effect after the first 10 pages of printing. Printing from the library catalog or databases the library subscribes to will be exempt. Subscribed databases will be clearly marked on the library’s web site, and include Axciom, Biography Resource Center, Contemporary Authors, all Ebsco databases, FACTS.com, and World Book.

The charge is expected to recoup approximately $50,000 a year in costs of toner and paper, the district says. All libraries are being equipped with change machines and money acceptor machines, and user accounts will be set up based on library card numbers.
