Update (6:45 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1): The burn ban for Darrington is to be lifted at 8 a.m.
EVERETT — The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency lifted a burn ban for most of Snohomish County, effective at noon Monday.
The exception was Darrington, where a burn ban was elevated to stage 2 until at least Tuesday morning.
A weak front coming from the south was expected to reduce the amount of air pollution in the county.
Darrington often has more stagnant air, and the front is expected to arrive late to the upper Stillaguamish River valley.
A stage 2 burn ban means that no burning is allowed in any wood-burning fireplaces unless it is the building’s only source of heat. Even then, no visible smoke is permitted.
All outdoor burning is likewise prohibited under both stage 1 and 2 bans.
The current burn ban status can be found at pscleanair.org/burnban. Darrington residents can also text “Darrington” to 313131 to receive text messages about the burn ban.
