Arlington shone among the 21 teams at the Edmonds Invite on Saturday, taking home team champion honors by 29 points over second-place Decatur.
The host Warriors came in third with 170.5 team points, but Arlington’s five finalists and one champion (Ruben Crew at 182 pounds) carried the day.
Trey Swanson (113), Christian Evanger (126), Gavin Rork (132), Jeremy Nygard (145) and Azariah Crew (170) also reached finals for the Eagles.
Edmonds-Woodway featured four finalists and three champions on Saturday, as Sidat Kanyi (126), Mason McDaniel (170) and Spencer Schultz (195) each won their weight classes with Mitchell Martinez the runner-up at 106.
Kanyi defeated Evanger by injury default, and Edmonds-Woodway coach Brian Alfi said the Arlington junior was taken to the hospital Saturday night.
Samuel Zook of Oak Harbor was the lone local champion outside of Arlington and Edmonds-Woodway, capturing the 285-pound weight class with a 7-3 decision over Mountlake Terrace’s Ilai Wilson.
McDaniel and Zook shared Outstanding Wrestler honors at the tournament.
Sidney Eagle Invitational
Lake Stevens’ Michael Soler looks just fine at 170 pounds.
In the three-time 4A state champion’s first outing at his new weight class after competing at 132 pounds as a junior, Soler took a 3-1 decision over Billings Skyview’s Jake Malachuski to help the Vikings to a second-place finish on Saturday.
Lake Stevens finished behind Post Falls (Idaho) in the 22-team tournament on the strength of five wrestlers making it to the final round.
Soler was the only victor, but Jake Bennett (106), Jake Douglas (145), Trysten Perales (152) and Malachi Lawrence (182) all tested themselves against top-flight competition throughout the two-day event.
Mariner Holiday Tournament
Sultan produced five finalists and four champions at the Mariner Holiday Tournament on Saturday, earning a second-place team finish behind Bethel.
Luke Weaver (106 pounds), Anthony Hall (182), Tanner Belcher (195) and Morgan Yates (220) were all victorious in their championship bouts, and David Woo (113) dropped a 9-8 heartbreaker as a runner-up.
White River Classic
Powered by the efforts of just five wrestlers, Everett finished 11th in a stacked 15-team field at the White River Classic on Saturday.
Three of the five Seagulls in attendance placed in the top five in their respective weight classes, helping Everett compete against state powers like Orting, Yelm and Sunnyside.
Jake Leonard placed second, Patrick West took third and Brett Allred captured fifth for Everett.
