EVERETT — Detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred late Sunday night in a home near a busy Everett intersection.
Just before 11:45 p.m., officers received a report of shots fired in the 4100 block of Colby Avenue. They arrived to find a man who had been fatally shot inside the house, Everett police officer Aaron Snell said.
The area was searched but no suspects were found.
“We know how he died,” Snell said. “We don’t know why he died.”
Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit interviewed potential witnesses, processed evidence and worked to develop suspect information. A command truck remained in a parking lot between the cream-colored house with white trim and an restaurant next door.
Yellow crime scene tape was used to establish a wide perimeter around the home, including much of the restaurant parking lot and a neighboring house. Detectives spent much of the day inside the home investigating the shooting scene.
During the course of the day, drivers along Colby slowed down as they passed a parked patrol car with its overhead lights on parked in front of the concrete steps leading up to front porch.
Some homes nearby appeared shuttered.
By late afternoon, Snell said the shooter remained unidentified.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s is expected to determine cause and manner of death and establish identity of the victim.
December has been a busy stretch for major crimes detectives in and around Everett.
On Dec. 2, police discovered the body of a man living in a transitional home in the 6900 block of Beverly Lane. Police later arrested Kenny Tate, 40, who has been charged with aggravated murder in the killing of Daniel Dubeau, 30.
On Dec. 12, Anthony Camacho, 17, died of a gunshot wound to the head. Snohomish County sheriff’s detectives arrested a 19-year-old man and two 16-year-old boys. The shooting occurred at a party in the 12300 block of Fourth Place W, just south of Everett.
Diego Tavares, 19, is charged with first-degree murder and has been ordered jailed on $2 million bail. He reportedly admitted involvement in the killing, and said the violence was part of a gang rivalry.
