Beer lovers’ paradise

Beer lovers, rejoice.

Whether you prefer blondes, ambers or pales, the third annual Hops on Equinox Spring Beer Festival in Seattle is sure to please the palettes of many a beer lover.

From 5 to 11 tonight and 1 to 11 p.m. Saturday, beer connoisseurs 21 and older can sample more than 80 Northwest and national beers and ciders from more than 40 breweries pouring handcrafted microbrews.

Anxious patrons can sample Spring seasonal beers early, including those from Missoula, Mont.’s Big Sky Brewing Co., Aprihop from Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, and W’05, an India Pale Ale from Widmer Brothers Brewing Co.

This year’s festival includes the Pub Culture Tasting that offers patrons an opportunity to sample signature dishes from more than a dozen Seattle pubs, including Fred’s Rivertown Alehouse, Buckley’s on Queen Anne and Hale’s Ales. Each menu item will be listed with a suggested beer to be paired with to maximize the flavors of both the dish and the beer. Restaurants and pubs provide two-hour tasting sessions.

Live entertainment will fill the room from 7:30 to 10:30 tonight and 6 to 10:15 p.m. Saturday. Beer-drinking songs will be provided throughout the day on Saturday from NW Folklife.

Hops on Equinox is a benefit for Northwest Folklife, a nonprofit multicultural arts organization.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate. Admission includes a 5-ounce souvenir cup and six tastes. Additional tastes are $1.25. Tasting tickets can be redeemed for food sampling, cider or beer. Valid ID is required.
