It’s deja vu all over again! All I hear from people is how much they like Bernie Sanders, but he just can’t win. Wasn’t that what they said about Barack Obama?
This week, the former governor of Pennsylvania pointed out that Bernie’s ideas were so big, that nothing would get done. In other words, we need to lower our expectations, or do the “Clinton triangulation.”
As long as the population votes for vanilla, that’s what we get. The right votes for the most extreme candidates, and everyone on both sides of the political spectrum shift that way. Why else is it that the party of Nixon no longer believes in the EPA? Or abortion rights? Or equal rights?
The problem is that Bernie’s not even that extreme! He’s just about where the center was, 30 years ago … pro-environment, pro-jobs, pro-equality for all, pro-people over Wall Street.
Obviously, the left is preferable to the right, in my opinion. But winning at all costs, i.e. “smear and fear” on the part of the Hillary camp regarding Medicare for All, does not endear me to her cause. The hypocrisy of using right wing tactics, of repeating the same line, after it’s been disproved, while acting indignant over an ad stating a factual difference between the two camps, is below the belt. I have spoken to many who will just stay home, rather than vote for Hillary.
I’m not one who is willing to entertain four more years of the right, in order to make a point, but as a 57-year-old female, I want the candidate who speaks for me first, and Wall Street last. Otherwise, it sounds like trickle-down politics to me.
Please consider the Bernie Sanders’ campaign.
