EVERETT — An Everett man accused of raping and murdering a 30-year-old man at halfway house last month allegedly admitted to sexually assaulting others in the past.
Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Matt Baldock earlier this month charged Kenny Tate with first-degree murder for the Dec. 2 homicide.
Tate, 40, is accused of strangling and beating Daniel Dubeau, a boarder at the Everett transitional house that Tate managed for his stepbrother. Prosecutors allege that Tate killed Dubeau in order to sexually assault him.
Tate reportedly told detectives that he had raped two men in California but was able to convince the victims not to report the assaults to police, Baldock wrote in court papers.
Tate is accused of luring Dubeau into his room with methamphetamine. When Dubeau refused Tate’s sexual advances the defendant allegedly strangled him with a leather belt and punched him repeatedly in the head. The dead man was then raped.
Tate later told detectives that he had no regrets about killing Dubeau. He said he was doing the man a favor, Baldock wrote.
Tate was being held on $1 million bail.
