PRINCE ALBERT, Saskatchewan — Friday night the Everett Silvertips were saved by the buzzer.

And as a result, they have their first winning streak of the season.

The Prince Albert Raiders had what would have been the tying goal waived off at the final buzzer, and the Tips held on to claim a 3-2 Western Hockey League victory.

Prince Albert’s Anthony Bardaro put the puck into the net just as the final buzzer sounded. The goal was originally allowed, but it went to a video review, which determined the puck crossed the line after time had expired.

Joshua Winquist had a goal and two assists, and Manraj Hayer and Ryan Harrison also scored for Everett (4-7-0-1), which won back-to-back games for the first time this season. The Tips also assured themselves of least a .500 record on their longest road trip of the season. The Tips are 3-2 on the trip with just tonight’s game at Saskatoon remaining.

Daniel Cotton, starting his fifth straight game in goal for the Tips, made 32 saves to earn the victory.

Leon Draisaitl and Mark McNeill scored for the Raiders (7-3-0-2), who dropped their fourth straight. Former Silvertip Luke Siemens stopped 25 shots in net for the Raiders.

The Raiders opened the scoring 5 minutes, 12 seconds into the game. Just after a Prince Albert power play expired, Draisaitl put home a rebound to stake the Raiders to a 1-0 lead.

The Tips answered quickly. Immediately following a Raiders’ scoring chance, Everett broke two-on-one. Winquist fed Hayer, who converted to knot the game 1-1.

Everett then grabbed a two-goal lead for the fourth consecutive game — Everett lost the first two of those contests — when the Tips scored a pair of power-play goals in the second period. Winquist snuck a shot past Siemens at 1:48 to give the Tips the lead, then Harrison scored on a one-timer at 13:19 to make it 3-1.

However, the Tips have struggled with prosperity throughout the road trip, and Prince Albert pulled within one at 18:33. McNeill received the puck coming out of the penalty box and sniped the top corner to make it 3-2.

Everett had several chances to pad its lead in the third period, and at the other end McNeill hit the crossbar, but neither team scored.
