Edmonds-Woodway girls settle for 6th at state

TACOMA — The Edmonds-Woodway girls basketball team couldn’t recover from a slow start on Saturday morning in a consolation game in the 3A state tournament, falling 58-42 to Mount Spokane.

The Warriors (17-12), the third Wesco 3A team to place at the tournament, took home sixth place.

Mount Spokane brought home the fourth-place trophy with the win.

Missy Peterson led the way for Edmonds-Woodway with 18 points, but the Warriors were outscored 17-7 in the first quarter and missed 10 of their first 13 shots from the field.

Mady Burdett tacked on nine points for Edmonds-Woodway, which shot just 29.6 percent (16-for-54) from the field.

Jaidyn Lyman led Mount Spokane with 21 pints, and Aspyn Adams added 13 for the Wildcats (16-11), who maintained a double-digit lead over Edmonds-Woodway for most of the final three quarters.

The Warriors cut the lead to nine on a few occasions, first on a jumper by Maddie Tudor to open the second half, but couldn’t get any closer.
