School bond loss hurts community

Marysville, we need a wake-up call as our school bond goes down to defeat (again).

Families we would like to have in our community will not bring their children to attend C-plus rated schools in shabby buildings that show community neglect and lack of community pride. Who wants to bring their family to that unless they are desperate for cheap housing? Oh yes, and do we all realize the impact this has on property values? One of the big reasons houses cost more in districts with well maintained, modern schools is that they HAVE well maintained, modern schools which the community is proud of!

Marysville citizens, we cannot have it both ways. Great communities with great property values have great schools that the community supports.

Right next to me, one family takes their children to Everett and another family has just pulled their children from Marshall Elementary. My son went to school in Marysville, and he and his wife are now teachers in Bellevue. The simple fact is that top teachers are not considering Marysville unless it is just a temporary career stop to get somewhere better. Yes, we have some very dedicated teachers here, but virtually all other Snohomish county districts have better schools in which to work. So why would the best and brightest choose a career here?

These issues confronting us will not be solved by continually voting down bond issues!
