COUGAR — Authorities say a 26-year-old man died in Clark County after he reportedly climbed over a guard rail and fell 180 feet.
The Columbian reported that friends of Bradlee Byfield called 911 Sunday night to report he had climbed over a guard rail to get to a ledge and that they couldn’t find him.
Deputies and rescuers responded to the location about six miles east of Cougar near Swift Reservoir. Friends of the man from La Center told police he may have slipped and grabbed a branch to steady himself, which then broke, leading to the fall.
Crews rappelled down the cliff and found Byfield’s body. His body was retrieved early Monday morning.
The Clark County medical examiner will do an autopsy.
