EVERETT — It’s safe to say the Everett softball team digs the long ball.
The Seagulls belted four home runs in an 18-8 3A District 1 semifinal win over Glacier Peak — and six total in two district games Tuesday afternoon — to clinch a spot at the 3A state tournament for the second consecutive season.
Everett will face Meadowdale in the district title game at 6 p.m. Thursday at Phil Johnson Fields, with both teams advancing to the state tournament.
Gabby Koehler went 3-for-4 with two home runs against Glacier Peak in the semifinal, after hitting one homer in Everett’s 5-4 victory over Edmonds-Woodway in the Seagulls’ district opener.
Sydney Taggart hit a home run and sophomore Megan Gordon also left the yard for Everett (18-4).
Koehler and Karissa Johnson accounted for the two home runs against Edmonds-Woodway.
“I just said to (Koehler), ‘Have a day,’” said Everett head coach Mike Millar. “Holy cow.”
Taggart was 5-for-5 in the semifinal game with the home run, six RBI and three runs scored and Tara Marquardt went 3-for-5 with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning that gave Everett a 10-run advantage and clinched the victory under the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s mercy rule.
“We got production all the way through the lineup,” Millar said. “Karissa Johnson, our No. 9 hitter, hit a big three-run homer in our first game today that proved to be the difference. That’s the biggest thing with our lineup, as well as Meadowdale’s and Marysville’s, anybody one through nine can hit the ball pretty hard.”
Isabella MacMillan was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored and Harlee Carpenter (2-for-3) added three RBI for Glacier Peak (14-8), which will face Mountlake Terrace in a loser-out, winner-to-state game at 4 p.m. Thursday.
The top four teams from the 3A District 1 tournament qualify for the state tourney this seaon.
