The wild and crazy 2016 presidential race has expanded to a new territory: obituaries.
It typically goes something like this: In lieu of flowers, the deceased asks that mourners not vote for Donald Trump. Or for Hillary Clinton.
It’s shown up in newspapers in Arizona and New Jersey and Alabama and Indiana. It was bound to happen here. And it did.
The last line of the obituary in today’s Herald for Jacob R. Easley, 32, of Warm Beach, reads: “In lieu of flowers, Jake would request that you not vote for Trump.”
Here’s the full obituary on Easley, a guy with an infectious smile and a sense of humor that lit up any room he walked in, who played guitar and loved hockey, who touched the lives of everyone he encountered.
A recent obituary of a 68-year-old Virginia woman took it a step further.
It began: “Faced with the prospect of voting for Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton, Mary Anne Noland of Richmond chose, instead, to pass into the eternal love of God.”
