Economic Alliance Snohomish County has announced the hiring of Jim Stephanson for the new position of director of business development. Previously, Stephanson was a director of development for Bethany of the Northwest, where he had a strong track record of success in fundraising and business development. Stephanson is the brother of Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson.

Kudos

Marysville Mayor Jon Nehring recently presented city employee Jeff Cobb with a Dare to Soar Innovative Service Award for his efforts that led to significant energy cost savings at the Marysville Waste Water Treatment Plant. The installation of new dissolved oxygen probes, arranged for by Cobb, could result in power savings costs of about $60,000 per year.

A Naval Facilities Engineering Command Northwest civilian employee has been selected as the Robert V. Ronick Fleet Manager of the year. Transportation specialist Gary Passmore works for the public works department at Naval Station Everett. Passmore has worked for the Navy for more than 20 years and was responsible for implementing a number of innovative energy strategies.

Richard Beresford, senior partner at Beresford Booth PLLC in Edmonds, has received the Edmonds Daybreakers Rotary Professional of the Year award. Beresford was chosen as the recipient of the award for his 41 years of service as a member of the Washington State Bar Association and numerous community service organizations.

The FAA regional office plans to present Paul Nyenhuis, owner of Aviation Inspection &Repair in Arlington, with the Mechanic of the Year award at 1 p.m. April 3 at the Arlington Municipal Airport. Nyenhuis and his wife Shirley are among the airport’s longest established tenants. They have been located at Arlington since 1974.

Gina Matzen from Windfall Lumber is the speaker at the next SnoLeaf Branch Collaborative Educational Series presentation from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Snohomish County PUD building in Everett. A light lunch will be provided. More information is available at living-future.org/Cascadia.

Foggy Noggin Brewing in Bothell celebrates its fourth anniversary this month. Celebrations include the release of 2014 Anniversary Ale. The brew is limited and only available in bottles. Domino’s Pizza is looking to add 500 new team members in Western Washington on its Regional Hiring Day. The event is from 1 to 4 p.m. on March 26. The newly formed Arlington Drug Awareness Coalition is sponsoring a community-wide drug and alcohol awareness event, “Out of the Shadows,” at 6 p.m. March 26 in the Byrnes Performing Arts Center, 18821 Crown Ridge Blvd, Arlington. Community members, parents and youth can attend this event. Childcare for younger children will be provided by the National Honor Society.

Lombardi’s Italian Restaurants is hosting two events in April to benefit the Everett Community College Foundation. Lombardi’s at the Everett Marina is hosting a Wine vs. Beer event at 6:30 p.m. April 3. Cornerstone Chiropractic of Everett has announced the acquisition of new technology to provide advanced chiropractic care to auto accident victims. This new tool, combined with X-ray imaging, helps chiropractor Michael Ilyankoff to identify the location where special attention or adjustments are needed and isolate that area for specialized attention.

Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital has introduced veterinary house calls for dogs and cats. In addition, the practice now schedules Sunday small-animal appointments at the hospital, for seven-day-a-week coverage. The hospital is offering these expanded options for appointments to increase client convenience.

With the help of the Small Business Administration’s Surety Bond Guarantee Program, small construction firms were awarded more than $1.2 billion in contracts in fiscal year 2013. This number represents a 61 percent increase over fiscal year 2012. The guarantee program encourages surety companies to bond small businesses who are having difficulty obtaining bonding on their own.

Consumer advocacy site NerdWallet.com recently released a list of the 20 best places for homeownership in Washington. Mill Creek East in Snohomish County came in at No. 2 on the list. Other Snohomish County neighborhoods on the list were Eastmont, Silver Firs and Bothell West.
