Grow an orchid cactus and be rewarded with spectacular scarlet, pink and white blooms.

Sometimes called epies, short for epiphyllums, the tropical plants are not really orchids. They love moisture and thrive in filtered shade in hanging baskets with a standard potting mix and perlite for drainage.

Give them a rest from regular watering in the fall to set flower buds. Store in a cool, dry place until flower buds begin to swell and your epi can be back outdoors.
