50 years ago (1962)
Everett’s newest club was the local chapter of the American Business Women’s Association, officially organized this week with the signing of its charter. Members of the executive board were Esther Kallstrom, president; Maxine Welly, vice president; Laura Lemon, recording secretary; Irene Adams, corresponding secretary; and Violet Greer, treasurer.
The Legion Caroliers, sponsored by the Earl Faulkner Post, performed in front of Costello’s at Hewitt and Wetmore avenues, and at hospitals and nursing homes. Members were Mike Bassett, Don Blankenburg, Frank Jamieson, Al Bingeman, John Riggs, Earl Bishop and John MacDonald. John Hedberg was the director.
25 years ago (1987)
Cloyde Hillis, of H&H Market at Madison Street and Lower Ridge Road, said he had sold some 1,000 pounds of lutefisk and 800 pounds of pickled herring this holiday season. He claimed to be one of the prime sellers of Scandinavian food products during the holidays.
Alden Hopkins of Everett earned the Eagle Scout Award, the highest honor the Boys Scouts of America offers its members. The son of John and Helen Hopkins of Everett was recognized in a ceremony at Trinity Episcopal Church.
