50 years ago (1962)
Earl Apker, chairman of the Everett Central Lutheran Church Building Committee, and the Rev. Herbert Ringo, pastor, recently turned the first shovelful of earth in ground-breaking ceremonies for a new Christian Education and Fellowship Building. Also on hand were Karen Gravroek, Stanley Peterson, Neil Gregerson, Viola Hendrickson, Marcia Herivel and Bobby Lee.
Karl Kindvater, 2, of Index, was up early operating the John Deere tractor cycle he received Friday at Barnett Implement Co. 2605 McDougall Ave. He won the replica of a big tractor from General Foods Corp., being helped by his father, a Forest Service employee, and his mother, an elementary school teacher.
25 years ago (1987))
Sluggish machines contributed to post-election suspense in Snohomish County with several candidates having to wait until 3 a.m. for the final results. Among the results, Willis Tucker was re-elected Snohomish County Executive and Rita Matheny was the new mayor of Marysville.
Everett Mutual Savings Bank invited the public to visit their recently remodeled, bigger and better branch at Silver Lake. There were refreshments and prize drawings this week.
