50 years ago (1962)
Paintings of Molly Fahnestalk, whose work had won numerous first prizes in exhibits around the country, were now on display in the Chinook Room of the Bon Marche. The Everett artist was currently doing portrait sketches on the fourth floor of the department store.
The average boat owner in the country was 44 years old and his income was $8,002 per year. He had 1.5 children under the age of 18, with the average being nine. These facts were based on a nationwide survey of more than 5,000 persons last summer for the Outboard Boating Club of America.
25 years ago (1987)
Barry Martin and Barbara Ogaard, rangers for the Everett Parks and Recreation Department, were conducting nature walks on Jetty Island this summer. Jane Lewis, supervisor to the Jetty Island Days program, said that osprey and eagles were among the many amazing wildlife on the breakwater.
Nick Pyssan, 7, Monroe, performed as chief frog handler at the jumping contest at the Kla Ha Ya festival in Snohomish. More than 300 spectators circled the walled jumping pen in the middle of First Street. It was just one of the dozens of activities at the community celebration.
