What to do for fun this weekend

My precioussssss: The Historic Everett Theatre is showing the extended versions of the “Lord of the Rings” movies. “The Fellowship of the Ring” is playing at 7 p.m. on Friday and 2 and 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The next two movies in the trilogy will be shown the following two weekends. Tickets are $10 general, $8 for seniors and military. A three-movie pass is $24.

Summer Garden Tour &Tea: The Oak Harbor Garden Club tour visits seven gardens on north Whidbey Island from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at Bayleaf in Oak Harbor and Coupeville; and Skagit Farmers Supply, Greenhouse Florist, Hummingbird Farm Nursery &Gardens, Maillard’s Landing Nursery and the Chamber of Commerce, all in Oak Harbor. Art and scenery: Combine a scenic drive on Whidbey Island with a tour of 27 artist studios. You can see potters throwing a new vessel, a painter placing the final strokes on a piece or a glassmaker twirling wands in a hot fire. For more details and to download a Whidbey Art Trail map, click here.

Check out Car 55: Heritage Park will offer an open house for Interurban Car 55 on Saturday from 11 am to 3 pm. Interurban Car 55 is a renovated 1909 interurban electric rail car on display at Heritage Park in Lynnwood. Car 55 is one of the six original trolleys that provided commuter service from Alderwood Manor to Seattle and Everett from 1910 to 1939.

Meet a Transformer or princess: BobaKhan Toy Store, at 2916 Hewitt Ave., Everett, plans a fun event for families on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. A number of Transformers and Disney princesses will be available for photos. Costumes encouraged. The event is a clothing drive; gently worn clothing and new socks and underwear are greatly needed to help Clothes for Kids.

A fairy house: Children can make their own fairy houses with natural materials at Meerkerk Gardens from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bring along a base to transport the creation if you want to take it home. Otherwise, the houses will be placed in the woods and gardens to attract woodland critters. Admission for this event is $5. Children 12 and under admitted free.

Catch a play: Village Theatre’s production of “The Producers,” Mel Brooks’ hilarious play, opens Friday night at Everett Performing Arts Center. The vaudeville-style musical tells the story of an out-of-luck Broadway producer and his accountant who devise a way to make a payload on a guaranteed Broadway flop — except when things go wildly wrong. Hit the beach: The Jetty Island ferry is running now, and with weather like this, it’s sure to be busy. Read our earlier story here for tips on how it all works. Everett residents can reserve tickets in advance.

Catch a movie. Outdoors. The Marysville Popcorn in the Park Outdoor Cinema Series starts on Saturday. The movie, “Hoodwinked,” is free and starts about 9 p.m at Jennings Memorial Park in Marysville.

Hear some music The first Edmonds Summer Concerts in the Park of the season is from 3 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at City Park, Third Avenue S. and Pine Street. The show is free. Get more info here.
