ELLENSBURG — Authorities say one person has died and another was seriously injured in a crash on Interstate 90 near Ellensburg that happened after several vehicles and a semi-truck entered an area filled with wildfire smoke.
Seattlepi.com reported a brush fire started in the freeway median late Thursday morning.
Washington State Patrol Trooper Brian Moore said the crash, caused by low visibility due to smoke over the highway, involved the semi, a truck pulling a travel trailer, another truck and a car.
Moore said a passenger in the truck pulling the travel trailer died on the way to the hospital and the driver was in serious condition.
Moore said the fire’s cause is unknown.
He said drivers should expect lane restrictions throughout the evening as the state patrol investigates.
