After spurious threats, bathrooms locked at Glacier Peak High

SNOHOMISH — Bathrooms at Glacier Peak High School will be locked the rest of the week after a string of bomb threats.

For the second time in two days, the campus was evacuated on Wednesday after a written threat was found in a bathroom.

A third threat was found later in the day, prompting a modified lockdown, said Kristin Foley, a spokeswoman for the Snohomish School District.

The information has been turned over to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office for investigation, she said.

Also on Wednesday, a similar threat turned up around 12:30 p.m. at Snohomish High School. All of the threats have referenced explosions and were found in bathroom stalls. They’ve been found in girls’ and boys’ bathrooms.

None of the threats are believed to be credible, sheriff’s spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.

For the rest of the week, Glacier Peak students will have to ask permission to use the restroom, Foley said.

Every lockdown or evacuation creates a disruption, she said, but the school district has to take every threat seriously.

Bomb threats on bathroom walls also were seen at Glacier Peak in January and September. Lockdowns at local schools often prompt a flurry of social media posts from parents and television news channels.

Another bomb threat was reported at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday at Post Middle School in Arlington, city spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said. It was found written on a piece of wood in the woodshop, she said.

Students and staff were taken to a different school nearby for about an hour while police swept the building. Nothing suspicious was found.

On Wednesday, Glacier Peak Principal Jim Dean sent a letter to parents, urging students to come forward and help identify who’s responsible. The school has added extra cameras and security around the bathrooms to try to stop the threats, he said.

“Information, no matter how small, may well lead us (to) find the students who are disrupting our school,” he wrote.
