Edmonds: Sidewalks coming to two schools
The city of Edmonds will take public comment on three planned “Safe Routes to School” grant-funded sidewalks to serve Sherwood Elementary and Madrona School at 6 p.m. June 4 in the gymnasium at Sherwood Elementary School, 22901 106th Ave. W.
The city is starting the design phase of each project, which aims to improve the safety of walking and biking routes to the schools.
Sidewalks are to be constructed on 15th Street SW from Edmonds Way to Eighth Avenue South; 238th Street SW from 104th Avenue West to 100th Avenue West; and 236th Street SW from Edmonds Way to Madrona School at 9300 236th St. SW. The city has also teamed with Cascade Bicycle Club and the Edmonds Bicycle Advisory Group to bring bicycle safety education classes into the two schools.
About $1.46 million in state and federal “Safe Routes to School” grants will help fund design and construction of the three projects.

Mill Creek: Lane Closures expected on 164th
Asphalt grinding and paving work on 164th Street in Mill Creek is set to begin Monday evening.
Lane closures are scheduled between Interstate 5 and the Bothell-Everett Highway between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
The work is expected to take about a month to complete but the schedule depends on the weather.
Monroe: Construction to start on roundabout
The city of Monroe has awarded the $1.1 million contract to construct the North Kelsey and chain Lake Road roundabout to Taylor’s Excavators Inc.
Construction is scheduled to begin Monday.
Traffic is expected to be routed through the construction zone. Drivers are cautioned to observe and follow the new lane alignments as traffic routes are shift or choose alternate routes. Delays are expected.
This project is set to be completed by October.
Snohomish: Second Street closed today
Construction work that was set to begin Wednesday is expected to affect traffic along Second Street.
Drivers should expect detours and delays in the area through today.
Second Street is scheduled to be closed from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. today for the asphalt overlay. A detour route through Fourth Street via Maple Avenue and Avenue D is planned.
This schedule is dependent on the weather.
Sunday Farmer’s Market to open
The Sunday Farmer’s Market in Snohomish is scheduled to open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
The market is located at Third Street and Lincoln Avenue, next to the Snohomish Boys &Girls Club.

Sultan: Fishing Derby set
The Sultan Sportsmen’s Club has scheduled its annual fishing derby for children ages 2 through 14 from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. The free event is planned at Ed Boucher’s ponds located on East Wisteria Lane in Sultan. The water is stocked with fish from the state.
Children must be accompanied by an adult. Prizes are lined up for the winners.
