EVERETT — The city is considering the purchase of a 2.75-acre property at 3600 Smith Ave. for transit use.
The location is the former Smith Street Mill site near Everett Station. The assessed value is $808,300, but it last sold a few years ago for more than $2 million. The current owner is $39,600 behind in taxes, according to property records.
The city’s initial offer was $4 million. It is being dropped to $3.2 million to account for soil contamination cleanup, documents show. There are provisions in the offer regarding the responsibility of the current owner to remove debris.
The City Council on Wednesday is expected to review a request to take steps toward the purchase. The plan calls for using the site for bus parking and for potential parking for the light rail station that is expected to open in two decades.
