EDMONDS — Five family members escaped peril after their home caught fire Sunday morning.
No one was injured in the fire that South Snohomish County Fire & Rescue said was reported just before 3 a.m. in the 8300 block of 215th Street SW. The neighborhood is close to Edmonds Woodway High School and Chase Lake Elementary School.
The fire started near a barbecue on the deck, spread up the side of the home and into the attic. Damage was estimated at more than $150,000. The home is uninhabitable for the parents and their three children.
The National Fire Protection Association warns that July is a common month for fires that start from a grill. Safe grilling tips include using them outdoors only, keeping them away from the home, decks and out from under eaves and branches, keeping children and pets away from the grill area, cleaning it to remove grease and fat building, never leaving it unattended, and to open the lid before lighting it.
