EVERETT — An Edmonds man was found guilty Tuesday of attempting to rape and kill a woman he encountered in June along a secluded beach in south Snohomish County.
Charles Frank Fisher, 60, was convicted of attempted first-degree murder and attempted second-degree rape.
A Snohomish County Superior Court jury spent much of last week listening to testimony that pointed to Fisher as the stranger who attacked the woman June 26 while she was walking along the shore at the Marina Beach Park between Woodway and Edmonds.
Jurors heard how Fisher had accosted the woman and demanded sex. A lengthy struggle followed. She was punched, choked and pummeled with a rock before finally being able to break free and run for help.
Edmonds police converged on the scene and a Lynnwood police dog followed a track that led to Fisher on a steep hillside. His clothes were wet and sandy.
The woman received multiple injuries, including two black eyes and a cut to her knee that required stitches.
Fisher’s sentencing is scheduled for next month. He faces up to 21 years in prison.
