EVERETT — A 12-inch water main under Rucker Hill broke early Monday, flooding cars and houses and leaving up to 25 homes without water service.
The break in the cast iron pipe happened about 1 a.m. near the corner of Norton Avenue and 35th Street, near Sequoia High School. Flooding mainly occurred along Nassau and Friday avenues. Three homes suffered water damage, said Kathleen Baxter, a spokeswoman for the city’s Public Works Department.
Crews worked through the morning to repair the pipe and had expected to restore water service by 7 a.m. The school was not flooded, although its water service was interrupted during the repair, Baxter said.
Homes that were without service should run their water for 30 minutes to clear any turbidity from the lines once service resumes. Though water may appear discolored, it is safe to use and drink.
Crews have not confirmed the cause of the break.
