Windermere serves
It’s only a one day closure. Today, Larchway Community Garden in Lynnwood hosts a Windemere Community Service Day in the garden.
Lynnwood Windemere will lock its office doors for the day to allow folks to contribute their time and energy to the garden. Larchway Community Garden benefits the Lynnwood Food Bank with hundreds of fresh organic foods every summer.
Workers will build two additional raised beds and beautify the food bank garden. Windemere will provide lunch for the volunteers.
Who are they?: Don’t be surprised if you see a large group of bicyclists in Everett this weekend. Participants of the first leg of a Cycle America tour will be in town Saturday evening and camping overnight at the Everett Boys and Girls Club.
Aptonyms return: Last year, The Herald ran a summer series on people and their names and it was called “Aptonyms.”
The word aptonym refers to people whose names aptly suit them because it suggests key attributes of their jobs, professions or lives. Their names might have, in fact, influenced their lives or careers.
Some of the people we featured last year were Fire Chief Travis Hots, stockyard accountant Janet Moo and Linda Savage, etiquette specialist.
We received plenty of responses, enough to run the series again. But we don’t want to leave anyone out.
