Psychedelic shrooms
The Snohomish County Mycological Society hosts Albert Garcia-Romeu at its next meeting, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Baker Community Center, 1401 Poplar St., Everett. Garcia-Romeu is a member of the psychiatry and behavioral sciences faculty at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he studies the effects of psychedelic drugs in humans with a focus on psilocybin as an aid in the treatment of addiction. Psilocybin is a naturally occurring psychedelic found in some mushrooms.

OWLS talk: The Retired Public Employees Council Chapter 6 meets next at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Carl Gipson Senior Center, 3025 Lombard Ave., Everett. This month’s speaker will be a member of the Organized Workers for Labor Solidarity (OWLS), “an open, multiracial, multicultural group of rank-and-file labor activists.”

Garden grants for schools: The Everett Garden Club offers horticulture grants of $250 to $500 to school programs. Schools with a physical Everett address in the Everett or Mukilteo school districts are invited to apply. Schools must have an existing garden club or program, or have a detailed plan for starting one. Application forms can be found at everettgardenclub.weebly.com. The deadline to apply is Feb. 14.
