KELSO — Police in Kelso say officers and firefighters rescued an intoxicated man who had climbed high into a tree in his yard, then fell and got stuck in the crook of a lower branch.
The Daily News of Longview reported that police say the 50-year-old man had apparently struggled unsuccessfully to free himself before a neighbor heard him and called 911.
When he was found, hanging about 15 feet above the ground, police say he was struggling to breathe, with his tongue and lips turning black from lack of oxygen. His rib cage and arms were badly bruised.
Officers say his position made it impossible to get free because his weight pinned him in place.
Police and fire crews used a ladder to free him Saturday. He spent one night in a hospital.
