Islamic civil rights group to address teen’s death in Lake Stevens

LAKE STEVENS — An Islamic civil rights group is planning a press conference Tuesday regarding the death of a young man from Lake Stevens earlier this year.

Lake Stevens police determined that Ben Keita, 18, committed suicide. They are closing their case, a spokesman said Monday.

Keita died from hanging, according to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office. The medical examiner has categorized the death as undetermined, meaning there was not enough information to pinpoint the exact circumstances.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, based in Seattle, issued a news release on Monday, asking the FBI to look into the case further.
