SNOHOMISH — Detectives found a knife along Highway 522 on Wednesday in connection with Sunday’s murder and assault near Maltby.
They announced the discovery on social media.
John Dimitri Kuljis, 31, was being held on $1.5 million bail. He is accused of killing Barbara Decker, 78, and stabbing her daughter, Janine Shaffer, 62.
He reportedly was working in their bathroom that day.
After the attack, he and his uncle drove to Everett where Kuljis lives with his parents. He reportedly cleaned blood from his hands and threw a knife out the window of the car.
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office searched a stretch of the highway between Echo Lake and the Snohomish River.
