LAKE STEVENS — A man who was shot and killed by Lake Stevens police Feb. 9 has been identified as Juan J. Salinas, 33.
His death was ruled a homicide, according to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The medical determination is separate from a legal review into whether the death involved a crime. The shooting remains under investigation by a county-wide team of detectives.
It occurred about 10:30 a.m. Feb. 9 near the man’s home on 18th Place SE. He allegedly called 911 earlier that morning and threatened to kill police. He reportedly advanced on officers with a knife.
The Lake Stevens officer who shot him was placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
Salinas bought the house in September, public records show. It was built last year as part of a new development near Cavalero Ridge. He had a previous address in the area of Martha Lake near Lynnwood.
