MARYSVILLE — The superintendent of the Marysville School District is recovering from surgery and the school board on Monday named an acting superintendent.
Jason Thompson, the district’s deputy superintendent, will fill in for Becky Berg until she can resume her duties. It’s unknown at this time how long Berg will be on leave.
She is healing after a 10-hour surgery, said Jodi Runyon, her executive assistant, in an email. The surgery reportedly was to remove a benign brain tumor. She was released from the hospital within two days and is doing well.
Berg and her family are requesting privacy at this time.
“All of the heartfelt thoughts, good wishes and prayers have been greatly appreciated by Dr. Berg and her family,” Runyon said.
Berg has been the superintendent in Marysville since 2013. She leads a district of more than 10,000 students.
Her priority is taking time to heal so she can resume her work, Runyon said.
