OLYMPIA — Snohomish County lawmakers will get new roles as a result of Democrats regaining the majority in the state Senate in last week’s election.
Sen. Steve Hobbs, D-Lake Stevens, was chosen Monday to be chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, which oversees state spending on transportation, Washington State Ferries and the Washington State Patrol.
Sen. Maralyn Chase, D-Edmonds, was named chairwoman of the Economic Development & Trade Committee that will focus on policies and programs affecting economic development.
Sen. Marko Liias, D-Lynnwood, will be Majority Floor Leader, which means he’ll help decide which bills are debated and when in the upcoming 2018 legislative session. He served as Minority Floor Leader in the 2017 session.
And Sen. John McCoy, D-Tulalip, will continue as chairman of the Democratic caucus, a leadership position that ensures he will be helping set strategy for Democrats.
Senate Democrats made these decisions in a reorganization meeting Monday afternoon.
