MONROE — Minor injuries were reported after a man jumped over the edge of a 40-foot drop while trying to escape Monroe police on Saturday afternoon.
Deputies spotted the Gold Bar man, 26, in a gold Mazda Miata around 1:10 p.m Saturday near Main Street. The car was reported stolen in Everett on Thursday.
Officers tried pulling him over as he headed eastbound on U.S. 2, but he allegedly took off. He ended up crashing into the back of a Ford Excursion, Monroe police spokeswoman Debbie Willis said. No one in the Ford was injured.
The Gold Bar man reportedly then jumped over the embankment. He left an Arlington woman, 29, in the vehicle.
The man was apprehended and taken to a local hospital. He was expected to be booked into the Snohomish County Jail. The woman, who also was hospitalized, is suspected of stealing a vehicle as well.
Both directions of U.S. 2 were closed for about an hour.
