Regarding the editorial, “Elect president by vote of all,” I offer a different view. The wisdom of our Founding Fathers amazes me, even 230 years later. The incorporation of the “Electoral College System” as part of our Constitution, was a true stroke of genius. One only needs take as look at the recent red and blue election map. It is clear that the pockets of blue are in and around Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle.
These high-density population areas have had local Democratic administrations for years. They also have high levels of crime, drug use, food stamp recipients, high school dropouts, street shootings and people receiving and living from government largess.
After reviewing the map, and looking at the counties that are now indicated in red, why would anyone come to the conclusion that the blue minority geography areas should dictate who the new leaders should be for that vastly larger portion of the country indicated in red? We suffer from the same issue in the state of Washington. Three or four counties in the western part of the state dictate the direction of government policies in the much larger portion of the counties in the whole state.
Vocal minority areas should never have the power to select the leaders for the vast majority of the areas of the country. These are the areas that produce the wealth of the country through farming, mining, manufacturing and producing the energy we all consume. Our Founding Fathers got it right.
