Tuesday’s Arlington Fly-in article describes a community event of amazingly large public interest; about 50,000 attendees served by 500 volunteer workers over seven days. (“Fly-In’s top volunteer keeps show aloft.”) Income dollars from the gate, fly-in pilots and commercial vendors must be close to a million dollars.
Major expenses: Insurance, flying programs, program printing, port-a-pottys, airport grounds lease? Not much else, just unpaid volunteers and an executive director, Mayor Tolbert.
At the end of the Fly-in accounting, let’s ask for a financial statement on the Fly-in organization from the city of Arlington. This is in the interest of full disclosure to the amazing, aviation-minded volunteer workers selflessly making this annual event such a great success.
